Hello tracker friends,
The OpenTracks team wishes you a Happy New Year 2021 with I hope lots of new outdoor activities.
On June 22, 2020, after 2 years of development and testing, we officially released the application on Android and iOS.
We end this end of the year with:
This year, particularly marked by the coronavirus crisis, allowed us to release more features, in particular because of the lockdown (we occupy our time as we can during weekends 😊). However, the number of activities, groups and events was also particularly impacted by the lockdown and unfortunately no group event could be organized.
Nevertheless, we remain hopeful that this year 2021 will bring us all out of this crisis which has severely impacted us and here is a bit of our program for the coming year.
- Increase of OpenTracks public content quality and quantity
For the application to be useful for many people as possible, it must offer quantity content but also quality content. That's why we created the publication reports to help each member of the community to improve the sharing of their hikes to the whole community. As we believe that the work of sharing with the community must be valued, we have set up a virtual currency system which, through potential partnerships, could make it possible to enhance this work of sharing by offering services or objects to the best contributors. If you have any ideas, we are interested. 😊
- Increase the community aspect
We believe that the strength of an application lies in its community and we hope in 2021 that the application will allow many mini communities and events to flourish all over the world. We plan soon to offer the ability for everyone to report dangers, bans, deviations automatically to other members of the community in order to be useful to everyone (a bit like the Waze application). We have also provided an idea box to suggest your best ideas.
- Increase the playfulness
Even though OpenTracks is packed with advanced features, we wanted it to be useful for everyone, whether it is family with young children playing games or experienced hikers who want to spend several days in the mountains. We are going to increase this aspect in order to be a fun and cool application.
- Increase respect for the nature
The coronavirus crisis has made us realize how fragile nature is and when we are confined, we miss it. We have set up special events to collect waste and we remind people to respect the environment at each event. We will continue to improve this aspect so that the OpenTracks community participates in the protection of our nature.

Do you think our app deserves to be known and you want to help us make it thrive?
